The latest addition to Austin’s skyline will come in the form of the new Austin Marriott Downtown. The 613-room hotel will be located in the heart of downtown, and is meant to complement the existing JW Marriott Austin.
An official groundbreaking took place on January 30, and the property is slated to open in the summer of 2020, a delay from its original opening date. The 31-story high-rise will be built at the corner of Cesar Chavez Street and San Jacinto Boulevard, complete with commanding views of downtown Austin.
The new Austin Marriott Downtown will offer three different bars in addition to a street-level restaurant. To accommodate special events, the new hotel will feature an exhibit hall complete with accents such as a modern 170-foot glass wall.
For entertainment, guests will be able to enjoy a modern deck and rooftop pool on the seventh floor surrounded by private cabanas and lounge chairs. The deck will offer private wait staff, as well as a private terrace where VIP members of the M Club can enjoy special perks. Built to overlook the city, the deck offers 180-degree views spanning from Lady Bird Lake to the Texas State Capitol.
Combined with sister property JW Marriott Austin, the two hotels will have more than 1,600 rooms and almost 180,000 square feet of meeting space, all within walking distance of the Austin Convention Center. This makes Austin one of the only seven cities in the country with this much event space. It will also feature an underground parking garage.
“Together, these properties will provide a game-changing opportunity for the city, elevating its attractiveness for large meetings and conventions, which otherwise might not consider Austin,” says Deno Yiankes, president and CEO of White Lodging, in a release.
This is part of a multi-hotel development plan on the part of White Lodging. In addition to the Austin Marriott Downtown, the group is also developing an 11-story property at the intersection of San Antonio Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
