Exclusive $250 million residential community taking shape in Driftwood
Driftwood is about to become posh. Located about 25 miles from Austin, the Hill Country town is the new site of a new $250 million, 800-acre development.
Driftwood Golf and Ranch Club is a private residential community that sounds more like a resort, promising to blend luxury living with the Hill Country's natural landscapes, vineyards, and a Tom Fazio-designed golf course.
The community, the brainchild of Arizona-based Discovery Land Company, will offer more than 300 home sites (cottages, cabins, and bungalows with up to five bedrooms and on lots up to three acres in size); and activities including fishing and kayaking, horseback riding, hiking, and paddle boarding.
The community, located at 582 Thurman Roberts Way, will offer an "unprecedented, yet unpretentious way of life" by highlighting the area's culture while maintaining its natural landscape, according to a release. Driftwood joins Discovery Land Company's 22 other posh properties around the world, including Las Vegas; Westhampton Beach, New York; Hawaii; the Bahamas; and West Indies.
The community's private club comes with access to 18 holes, and a clubhouse by the creek that includes a kids' club, dining venues, spa facilities, shopping boutique, training facilities, and more. Other unique features include a 360-degree observatory, remote control car- and boat-racing tracks, recording studio, and performance venue.
The golf and ranch club will use treated water on the course and require the roofs of homes to harvest rainwater, which will be injected into the Edwards Aquifer. Also, the club’s dining venues will use produce from an organic garden and greenhouse.
Construction on the golf course began in January and is expected to be completed during the summer or fall of 2020. Construction on the first home site and the clubhouse also will begin this year. Estate lots start at $800,000, which only covers the cost of the lot.
“Our goal at Discovery is to blend the beautiful landscape, club amenities and homes to maximize the experience for our members, which is exactly what we’re creating at Driftwood,” David Rhoades, Driftwood Golf and Ranch Club project president, says in a release. “We’re building a community that all generations of your family can enjoy together for years to come.
Discovery also offers Outdoor Pursuits, a recreation concierge program that identifies "outdoor adventures" for members such as "tubing Onion Creek to day trips to nearby lakes and caves."
