7 brand-new Austin happy hours you don't know about yet
If there’s a particular resolution that’s worth sticking to in 2020, it’s the one about trying new things. To help make it easier, these newly opened Austin concepts offer fantastic best happy hour deals, giving patrons the chance to try out a new spot without forking over a ton of cash.
From boozy coffee shops to high-end cocktail lounges, these seven brand-new happy hours may offer a variety of different experiences, but they all have one thing in common: great deals.
Buzz Mill Shady
This popular South Austin coffee/bar/performance space recently opened a second location, Buzz Mill Shady, on the east side. Happy hour at the new joint stretches from 5-8 pm on weekdays and takes $1 off everything on the menu, with the exception top shelf selections. On another note, Buzz Mill Shady is open 24/7, so swing by whenever and check it out.
Far East Sports Bar
Street, which was nestled under Chinatown's Northwest Hills location, is now the Far East Sports Bar. True to its name, the bar has 20 TVs, 15 beers on tap, and plenty of Asian-fusion bites. Happy hour runs from 3-6:30 pm on weekdays and includes $2 off all entrees and specialty drinks, such as the Sake Mojito (fresh mint, lime, soda, sprite, and sake) and Sake Bombs (sake and Twisted X 1092 Pale Ale).
Kalimotxo
Next door to the also recently opened (and already celebrated) Hestia on West Third Street, is this Basque-style pintxo and cocktail bar. From 4-6 pm, Tuesday through Friday, nab one of the bar's Spanish classics, like the frozen Kalimotxo (Spanish red wine and Coca-Cola), for just $5. The biggest draw, however, may be the $20 porrones, which are wine pitchers that you pour directly into your (or someone else’s) mouth.
The Meteor
Hit up South Congress on weekdays from 4-6 pm to get in on this café and bike shop’s happy hour offerings. All drafts are $2 cheaper than usual, plus wines by the glass and “casual crushers” like the Maglia Rosa (Cocchi Rosa, prosecco, and orange), are half-off. By the way, even though it’s not a part of the happy hour, add one of Meteor's sourdough-crusted, Roman-style pizza to make it a meal.
Nixta Taqueria
This East 12th taqueria has quickly managed to garner quite a bit of attention. Indulge in delicious duck carnitas tacos (on the restaurant's delicious homemade corn tortillas) during happy hour, which includes half-off beer and all glasses and bottles of wine. This discount is available from 5-6 pm, Tuesday to Friday.
Provision
For those in the midst of a sober January, this Red’s Porch Quarry replacement has you covered with its no-proof cocktails, such as the Lavender Bees Knees, which includes CBD, lavender honey simple, lemon, and egg white. These drinks, along with actual cocktails, select beers and glasses of wine, are all $2 off, every weekday from 5-7 pm. Certain bites, like the deviled eggs and crab puffs, share the same discount.
Troublemaker
Where the Hightower once resided on East Seventh Street, there’s now this spot that specializes in drinks, records, and San Diego-style burritos. Happy hour runs from 4-7 pm on weekdays and includes a variety of beverage deals, including a $5 beer and shot combo, a $2 brown bag beer, $1.50 Lone Star tall boys, and $8 house cocktails. Customers can also snag get free chips and salsa while it lasts.
