Wings and Things
Score big on Super Bowl Sunday at these Austin restaurants
The February 4 match between the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles may be a nail-biter, and Justin Timberlake just might bring sexy back during the halftime show, but we all know the action on the screen pales in comparison to the action on the plate. Whether you're an armchair quarterback or just in it for the commercials, you'll score big by leaving the Super Bowl spread to these pros.
Backyard at Waller Creek
Gather a group to watch the game on Backyard’s huge screen while enjoying boneless wings, pulled pork sliders, and the restaurant’s signature Mountain of Nachos.
Cover 3
Reserve a table and watch with the crowds at this upscale sports bar, or order a party to-go pack of items like sliders, wings, and addictive brick chicken mac ’n’ cheese.
Craftsman
Area breweries compete for bragging rights and a spot on the tap wall at this East Cesar Chavez bar’s third annual SOUPer Bowl Chili Cookoff.
Fresa’s Chicken al Carbon
The South First Street location of Fresa’s is having its first big game watch party. Reserve a table or grab one of the patio seats and stuff your face with super snacks, discounted beer, wine, and margaritas, and free endless queso. Both locations are offering Super Party Platters if you prefer to party in your pajamas. Orders can be placed online until game day.
Gabriel’s
Catch the spirit at the casual restaurant located inside the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center with game day specials like $20 appetizer plates, $14 draft pitchers, and $22 buckets of beer.
Güeros Taco Bar
The South Congress Avenue mainstay is offering special snack packs for game day. Each order consists of two tamales, chips, queso, guacamole, and samples of the restaurant’s famous salsas.
Little Woodrow’s
All area locations will have the game playing on high-res and plenty of beer and other adult beverages on tap.
Olamaie
Bring some of the upscale eatery’s famous biscuits home for your viewing party. To place an order, email biscuits@olamaieaustin.com. But do it quickly. The deadline is Thursday, February 1.
The Park
Both Austin locations will be offering themed specials on game day — a $3 Sam Adam's Boston Lager for the Pats and a $9 cheesesteak for the Eagles. For the home party, use code SuperBowl 52 to get 10 percent off preorders of the entire menu through February 4.
Pluckers
What would the big game be without wings? Order flavors like Dr. Pepper, ginger peach Sriracha, and gochujang for your private viewing party, or reserve a table at your favorite location for $10.
Punch Bowl Social
This Domain hot spot has TVs in almost every corner, providing plenty of comfy spots to watch the game while noshing on cilantro wings, lobster bacon fries, and cauliflower nachos. But we like it because there's plenty of diversion from the football game with activities like skeeball, darts, and bowling when the action on the screen starts to lag.
Soursop and St. Elmo Brewery
The South Austin brewery will be playing the game on a projector, while the cult food truck rolls out specials including loaded ChongQing tater tots, shrimp chips and queso, and boneless wings with kimchi buffalo sauce.
Swift’s Attic
Pregame for the big event with brunch specials including $8 Ice Ball Oldie cocktails (cherry heering, orange and lemon zest and juice, luxardo maraschino, cherry ice ball) and football-themed doughnuts from pastry chef Kyle McKinney.
Uncle Billy’s Brewery and Smokehouse
What more do you need on game day than barbecue and beer? Get in on the action with smoked ribs, wings, brisket, sausages, and more.
Upstairs at Caroline
Fans have an extra reason to cheer at this downtown bar’s Super Sunday Watch Party. Any guest wearing the winning team’s jersey will get 25 percent off their bill. The rest will just have to drown their sorrows in $3 Miller Lite tall boys and $4 Pearl Snaps.
Veggie Heaven
Order fried cauliflower wings in teriyaki, Thai chili, or curry flavors for an all-vegan watch party.
W Austin
An all-day happy hour is sure to make Sunday interesting whether the game is or not. If you have a big crew, reserve a table package that comes with Don Julio tequila or Crown Royal, Bud Light, and plenty of snacks.
