This SXSW, rather than checking your Twitter account obsessively and standing in lines for free food, why not sign up for a straight up eating contest where you can guarantee you'll get more than enough delcious food to satisfy your Convention Center cravings?
Torchy's Tacos, the quintessential Austin food trailer, invites you to rally all of your SXSW taco cravings in an eating challenge against Austin's favorite competitive eater, Hungry Todd Rungy, in the 2012 SXSW SpecTACOlar Showdown.
It will be a battle of the accommodating bellies to see who can be the first to get down two of Torchy's Ace of Spades Tacos, which includes a jalapeno sausage, chopped beef brisket, Green Chili queso, Diablo hot sauce, sour cream and a fried egg, all wrapped up in a warm flour tortilla. These hefty puppies run $5.50 a piece on the Torchy's menu, so you're getting more than your money's worth for the day getting two. Oh, and did we mention free beer?
Eating just one Ace of Spades sounds like enough to lay us out for the rest of the day. But not to Hungry Todd Rungy. He's American and he's fighting for freedom, fighting for our right to eat. Now the star of his own web television show, The Hungry Todd Rungy Show, this is your chance to see this true food patriot in action.
But the question is: Do you think you have what it takes to beat him? Up for grabs: a $100.00 Torchy's gift card and bragging rights for a whole year. And maybe a guest spot on the Hungry Todd Rungy Show, either as the winner or as another stepping stone along the way on his great mission to become "the number one competitive food eater IN THE UNIVERSE."
Wednesday is the last day to enter the competition in order to find out if you've got what it takes. The big throw-down takes place Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m.at the South First Trailer Park Eatery. Take a break from SXSW and become a part of (or just watch) gastrointestinal greatness in our own home town.
Register to compete in the SpecTACOlar Showdown with a short entry and questionairre. No charge to enter. Competitors will be notified by Sunday, Mar 11.
