Sommelier of the Year
East Austin restaurant nabs top honor from Food & Wine magazine
East Austin dining oasis laV offers delicious French-inspired fare and to-die-for desserts. To pair with its acclaimed cuisine, the restaurant offers one of Austin's most impressive wine lists — and a national publication has taken note.
Food & Wine magazine has named Vilma Mazaite, sommelier of the East Austin gem, one of its 2015 Sommeliers of the Year. Mazaite is one of seven "extraordinary wine professionals" from across the U.S. selected for the prestigious honor.
"Although she’s excited to introduce customers to obscure grapes like Fendant, she’s a master of Burgundy, sourcing wines from all the best crus," says the magazine about why Mazaite was chosen. In the feature, Mazaite selects three bottles that tell the story of her life. A 2001 Prager Achleiten Smaragd Grüner Veltliner represents her extensive travels through Europe, while a 2001 Movia Ribolla Gialla signals her new perspective on Italian whites.
