Aziz Ansari’s web special comes with a big bonus: A list of the comic’s favoritefood spots
Aziz Ansari is more than an actor, stand-up and Tumblr celebrity; he’s also an admitted foodie who’s explored the weirder side of Tokyo’s restaurant scene, eaten his way through Fashion Week and described his ideal burrito for Bon Appetit.
His for-serious food obsession might come as a surprise to fans of Parks and Rec, where his character is known for his childish eating habits and silly snack names. Single-serving site Tom Haverfoods provides a helpful primer of the Parks and Rec-created lexicon (my faves: lemonade = “LL Cool Ade”; sprinkles = “rainbow rice for milkly ice”; grapes = “teen raisins”).
A rundown of Tom Haverford’s best food terms, illustrated in awesome kinetic type by Alison Harshbarger:
Given the comics’ love of the culinary arts both on and off-screen — and the fact that the special itself is titled Dangerously Delicious — it makes sense that the .zip file of bonus features that comes with every purchase of his latest, web-exclusive release includes a text file labeled “FoodList.rtf,” a rundown of mouth-watering highlights Ansari encountered on his last tour.
Since he made a stop in Austin, the list gives a shoutout to some local favorites, along with some pro tips, like “there's always Salt Lick which is a hike but people dig it (I get it at the airport location on my way home, pretty dope).”
Wondering what Ansari’s go-to Torchy’s order is?
Get the Crossroads (Brisket, cheese, avocado), the Brush Fire (jerk chicken, mango, sour cream), and Baja Shrimp. GOD DAMN I'M GETTING HUNGRY TYPING IT OUT.
How about Uchiko?
Make sure you ask for the eggplant sushi. Also the blue fin tuna and watermelon. Holy fuck. Please go.
Even Franklin gets a shoutout, though Ansari acknowledges he’s never had the time to stand in line for a taste. Fingers crossed that when he’s back in town for the Moontower Comedy Festival — with two shows on April 25 — he’ll be able to make it (hey Franklin, if you’re reading this, I have a feeling a certain someone might appreciate a special delivery…)
