C is for Cookie
Beloved Houston restaurant and its famous cookies are coming to Austin
A beloved Houston restaurant is making a move on Austin. Tiny Boxwoods, the restaurant known for scratch-made fare and fresh cookies, is opening at 1503 W. 35th St. this spring.
What began as a simple espresso bar inside a nursery has blossomed into a full-blown restaurant with two Houston locations and a dedicated outlet for its signature chocolate chip cookies. The new Austin outpost will include favorites from the original menu, such as salads, pizzas, and hearty entrees. Chef Ava Sonleitner is also crafting a few Austin-specific dishes.
Tiny Boxwoods' clean, classy interior is as lauded as the food. Look forward to enjoying these dishes, as well as coffee, beer, and wine, inside a chic, well-appointed restaurant. A separate space called the Rosemary Room, which can seat 40 people, will be available for private events.
The concept comes from chef Baron Doke and Gregg and Lance Thompson. The latter two are the principals of Thompson + Hanson, a landscaping firm and home of the original Tiny Boxwoods. The new Austin location is conveniently located down the street from the firm's local headquarters and retail front.
Dinner service at Tiny Boxwoods begins May 9. Hours will be Tuesday through Saturday, 5:30 to 10 pm. Breakfast, lunch, and brunch will follow.
