Damn good news
Torchy’s Tacos fires up first-ever Pflugerville location amid nationwide expansion
Wildly popular Austin-based Torchy’s Tacos is continuing its roll into the suburbs. On April 23, the homegrown chain announced its first-ever Pflugerville store is set to debut May 8.
Located in Stone Hill Town Center, just southwest of the intersection of State Highway 130 and State Highway 45, the new store will host a grand opening celebration with free tacos and giveaways from 5-8 pm on May 7.
“With Austin’s burgeoning population, it only makes sense that we bring our ‘damn good’ tacos to the Pflugerville community,” G.J. Hart, CEO of Torchy’s Tacos, said in a release. “As we grow and expand throughout the Southwest, we want our most loyal fans to know that our roots remain in Austin.”
Later this summer, Torchy’s plans to add its second location in Round Rock, at 1500 N. I-35 just north of State Highway 79.
The new Pflugerville and Round Rock stores will be the chain’s 16th and 17th locations in the Austin area.
Once the new Round Rock store opens, Torchy’s will operate 54 locations in Texas. In addition, the chain has four locations in Oklahoma and six in Colorado. Another store is in the works for Denver, as well as the chain’s first store in nearby Boulder. Furthermore, one store each is on the drawing board for the Arkansas cities of Fayetteville and Rogers.
Hart, former CEO of the California Pizza Kitchen and Texas Roadhouse restaurant chains, became CEO of Torchy’s in early 2018. Torchy’s was founded in 2006 as a taco truck in Austin.
When Hart’s hiring was announced, Torchy’s signaled it was plotting a nationwide expansion.
“Torchy’s has significant growth potential, and I cannot imagine a more exciting time to join the team,” Hart said last year. “Torchy’s is a unique and dynamic brand with a talented leadership team and team members whose success is anchored by a strong culture that can’t be matched in the fast-casual space.”
