Torchy's Takes Over Fran's
Torchy's Tacos to open South Congress locale: Take a peek at the retro-inspired design
Local franchise Torchy’s Tacos hasn’t slowed down its expansion outside of Austin, but the taco purveyor is still breaking new ground in its hometown. Specifically, Torchy’s is ready to start construction on what is being touted as its new flagship store on South Congress.
Chioco Design released a rendering on its Facebook page that gives a glimpse of a rather bold, retro-inspired Torchy’s. Along with a dining room, full bar and ample sidewalk seating, the exterior features a striking design and new signage that will certainly stand out on the iconic Austin boulevard.
According to Community Impact, construction is set to begin in January of next year, with an opening date roughly set for the spring of 2015. The new Torchy’s will take over the former home of Fran’s Hamburgers at 1822 South Congress Ave. The iconic burger spent over 40 years at that location before closing in April of last year after the family chose not to renew their lease.
The new South Congress locale will also be just a short distance away from the chain’s original trailer location on South First St. near Bouldin Creek.
As for Chioco Design, the firm has an impressive portfolio including Winflo Osteria, Perla’s, Galaxy Café, Man Bites Dog and many more.
