Come and Get It
McDonald's stacks menu with Lone Star burger for Texans only
Texas is brimming with sophisticated restaurants and gems that make national headlines, but occasionally you may find yourself at that American roadside mainstay: McDonald's.
Well goody for you (and we promise not to judge), because you can go Texan under the Golden Arches for the time being. Through August 28, you can indulge in McDonald's newest menu item: the Lone Star Stack, winner of the fast-food chain's Burger Showdown.
The burger was submitted by Houstonian Joseph Peña, who credits his mother for the original recipe. The Lone Star Stack forgoes the typical McDonald's burger bun in favor of Texas toast, which is stacked with sweet onion barbecue sauce, two beef patties, grilled onions, Applewood-smoked bacon, American and white cheddar cheese, and crinkled pickles.
McDonald's was flooded with about 25,000 entries for the Texas contest, most of which were spicy and included bacon — go figure. About 200,000 votes determined the five finalists, and a panel of McDonald's Texas owners, employees, and community influencers selected the winner.
Get your hands on the Lone Star Stack in a dozen Texas cities, including Austin, Beaumont, Bryan-College Station, Corpus Christi, Dallas, El Paso, Harlingen, Houston, Laredo, Midland-Odessa, San Antonio, and Waco. It's available through August 28.
