Dripping Springs artisan market closes less than a year after opening
Oakwood Public Market will close in early July.
Less than a year after opening, Driftwood's food court and artisan goods space Oakwood Public Market is closing Friday, July 3. The business announced the closure in an Instagram post, saying that owners are "recalibrating and reimagining Oakwood’s future."
Oakwood opened in the fall of 2025. The main draw in the space was a variety of food and beverage concepts, although unlike at a food hall, they are all original to and managed by Oakwood: a coffee shop, a pizza kitchen, a soda shop, and a bar. There were also two market components, one for selling artisan goods like wine and cheese, and another for home goods.
The public announcement attributed the closure to "numerous challenges."
"We’ve worked tirelessly to keep moving forward amid staffing constraints, leadership turnover, rising costs, tough market dynamics, economic pressures, and other significant headwinds," the post says.
Recent changes to staff, service models, and menus were not enough to keep the business afloat. The team determined that the business was "not sustainable."
The closing message does not include information about whether traffic to the market, which is somewhat tucked back off U.S. 290, was too slow to keep it open. Its hint about recalibrating seems to suggest owners will retain the space, but it does not explicitly confirm that is the case.
:The gratitude we feel for our team and community is impossible to sufficiently convey," the post concludes. "Your faith, your support, your patience, your kindness - these are gifts beyond measure. We’ve enjoyed many happy moments with you these past many months and remain hopeful about what’s to come.
