New East Austin beer garden plans killer combo of craft brews and kolaches
Texans sure do love their kolaches (and beer), and Batch Craft Beer & Kolaches will combine those favorites when it debuts in East Austin early next year. Owners, brothers Noah and Josh Lit, are opening a beer garden and taproom that doubles as a cafe and bakery specializing in the beloved pastry.
"We've been in the neighborhood for 20 years and have always wanted a place where you can relax and enjoy a great brew and one of Texas' favorite comfort foods: kolaches," says Josh Lit in a release.
"While touring with our band through Texas, kolaches became an obsession, which led to our belief that you should be able to have a beer with your kolache for brunch and a kolache with your beer for dinner."
Batch promises over 400 bottles and cans from top breweries in Austin and around the world. To balance out the beer, the bar will also offer coffee drinks courtesy of Greater Goods Roasting.
The kolache menu, crafted by pastry chef Jasmine Jones of I Knead That, features eight staples and four rotating specials. The lineup ranges from savory options such as Micklethwait Craft Meats brisket and veggie sausage with cheese to sweeter confections like chocolate and pecan.
"I've loved kolaches since my first bite of one eight years ago," says Jones. "I'm totally stoked to get fat with the Lit [brothers] while creating new and delicious recipes!"
Look for Batch in a renovated ranch house at 3220 Manor Rd. in January 2017. Hours will be Sunday through Thursday from 7 am to 11 pm, and Friday and Saturday from 7 am to midnight.
