HOLE LOT OF FUN
New South Congress doughnut and sweets tour launches in Austin

Underground Donut Tour is launching in Austin, San Antonio, and Dallas.
Were he in Austin, Homer Simpson would probably be drooling right now. The Underground Donut Tour has launched, well, doughnut tours along South Congress Avenue, part of a three city expansion in Texas.
In a release, the company says it blends food and history in its roughly two-hour strolls. The bites aren’t relegated to just donuts, incorporating pastries and other sweet treats. Austin gets a kolache stop, which seems like a good way to temper a tween sugar rush.
Although the tour did not mention the sites in the release, its Austin booking page offers one fairly obvious clue: The walk starts and ends at the Salty Donut, an upscale doughnut shop that seems local but is actually part of a small chain in a baker's dozen cities.
The website says tour-goers should also expect churros and gelato or ice cream, so we can make an educated guess that the tour will stop at Amy's Ice Creams, Gelato Paradiso, and perhaps Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams. Churros at a bit harder to find, but they are on the menu at Torchy's Tacos.
Chicago entrepreneur Jeff Woelker founded the tour in 2015 as a fun side gig. Since then, the company says it has hosted guests in 25 cities in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Ireland.
In addition to Austin, the tours are launching in San Antonio and Dallas.
“We’re incredibly excited to launch our newest tours in Texas,” said Woelker in the release.
“Each of these cities and neighborhoods offers a unique blend of culture, history, and amazing food. We’ve curated experiences that highlight the best sweet treats while giving guests a fun and memorable way to explore these cities.”
Tickets for the family friendly tour are $70 for adults and $60 for children 10 and under. Tickets can be booked online.
