Raising the Bar Food
Former Food Network host debuts Round Rock bar with fancy comfort food
Something odd is going on in Round Rock. Odds Bar & Bistro, a concept by former Food Network host John Green dedicated to "elevated bar fare," will open January 11 with special offer for early customers.
Every entree purchased during the opening weekend will come with a free appetizer.
Odds is located at 1401 South I-35 Frontage Road at the Renaissance Square shopping center — that means it's neighbors with Del Sol Taqueria Restaurant and Bar and Subham Chettinad Grill.

Despite its strip mall locale and aspiration to cook bar food, this restaurant will be serving up some legitimately fancy dishes and cocktails. However, according to a press release, the restaurant aims to remain approachable. There will be "whimsical and eclectic decor" and sports on the TV.
This is thanks to the work of service industry pro John Green, who is best known for hosting the Food Network series On The Rocks, which was both his first show and the network's first bar show, according to Green's website. The series showcased Green's work as a bar consultant; he'd get to know the business, identify pain points, and help management implement solutions.

The menu is far-reaching in style, but everything is tied together through its status as an American comfort food favorite. That includes things like chicken wings brined with garlic for 24 hours garlic, served with a signature hot sauce, chile lime flavor, or barbecue sauce; pappardelle with braised short ribs that are slow-cooked in tomato and red wine; and a beautiful stack of French toast with fresh berries and whipped cream.
Naturally, the cocktail menu focuses on popular, standard drinks with an "odd" twist. Expect signature takes on drinks like the French 75, the Sidecar, and the New York Sour, according to the release. Guests can also order wine and local beers.
"We are thrilled to bring Odds Bar & Bistro to Round Rock," said Green in the release. "Our goal is to create a space where friends, family, and the community can come together over great food, inventive cocktails, and a welcoming environment. Don’t be the odd one out — come join us and see what we’re all about."
