What a Catch
Seafood favorite Truluck's reels in stunning new downtown Austin location
A two-level restaurant with a more modern design awaits loyal Truluck's diners, who after almost 23 years are getting a dazzling new Austin location.
Earlier in June, Truluck's relocated a block down to 300 Colorado St. With the move comes a swanky new bar, a second-story wraparound patio with downtown Austin views, and a top-of-the-line kitchen that lets Chef Michael Cerny and Chef de Cuisine Andrew Diaz further expand the mouthwatering menu.
But don't worry — you'll still find signature and guest favorites like the miso-glazed sea bass served with crab fried rice and chilled cucumber slaw, sesame seared tuna, prime king crab, and South African lobster tails, to name a sumptuous few.
These menu staples will be augmented by limited-time offers on the finest seasonally available seafood delicacies from around the world, flown in fresh, ocean-to-table.
Truluck’s wine list, recognized by Wine Spectator magazine’s Award of Excellence, sports highly rated varietals available by the glass or bottle. Only premium spirits go into the handcrafted cocktails, and happy hour takes is still happening in the bar from 4:30-6 pm, seven nights a week. This lets you enjoy half-price liquor, featured wines by the glass, and 50 percent off 50 different wines by the bottle.
Chef Cerny and general manager Jennifer Winney revealed their favorite elements of the new location:
CultureMap: What sets this location apart?
Jennifer Winney: This new location combines the elegance and class of a traditional steakhouse with the modern atmosphere, vibe, and energy that today’s sophisticated diners crave. Our team is hand-selected for their genuine passion, hospitality, and expertise in their craft, consistently providing some of the best service experiences Austin has to offer. This property illustrates everything I love about our industry, all in one exquisite package.
Michael Cerny: The building's modern look is carried throughout the restaurant into the kitchen as well, with upgraded Hestan equipment and fixtures. I am also most excited for diners to experience some of their old favorites and possibly some new additions that are only in Austin downtown at the moment.
CM: What's your favorite item on the menu?
JW: Do I have to pick just one? A perfect meal would include caviar, king crab, and, of course, our world-famous carrot cake.
MC: The Mediterranean branzino. A beautiful fish, simply prepared, and the true flavor of the fish shines.
CM: What's your go-to drink at the bar?
JW: You can never go wrong with Champagne! However, for a zero-proof option I gravitate to our Berry Patch, which invokes summertime brightness with strawberry, fresh lime, almond syrup, and sparkling coconut.
MC: Mine is Whistle Pig rye.
Combined, chefs Cerny and Diaz have 30 years of Truluck's experience. GM Winney has focused her leadership skills in the culinary industry for almost 25 years.
