Twin Isle, a new Caribbean restaurant, is slated to open at in early spring at 1401 Rosewood Ave. in East Austin. This is the latest venture for Chef Janelle Romeo, best known for the East Austin food truck Shirley's Trini Cuisine.

Romeo is originally from Trinidad and Tobago and just like her food truck, Twin Isle is inspired by the cuisine of Trinidad and Tobago and the surrounding Caribbean Islands. Also like Shirley's, Twin Isle will be quick and casual, including several build-your-own bowl options.

Aside from bowls, Twin Isle will include family-style meals and made-to-order specials, all handmade daily. Some highlights from the menu include:

  • Proteins like stew oxtails, curry chicken, curry goat, jerk chicken, and steamed fish
  • Vegetarian sides including curry chickpeas and potatoes, spinach bhaji, pumpkin, and macaroni pie
  • Roti Wraps with vegetarian, chicken, or goat fillings
  • Oxtail and fried fish sandwiches
  • Ox fries, fried plantains, and Jamaican patties
  • Rotis with freshly made dhalpuri and buss up shut (paratha)

In addition to this core menu, Twin Isle will have a rotating selection of seasonal specials, like curry crab and dumplings, bake and saltfish, Trini-style Chinese dishes, and Trini barbecue.

“I’ve always wanted to share the vibrant, soulful dishes I grew up eating in Trinidad and Tobago with as many people as possible,” says Romeo in a press release. “Twin Isle is an extension of my love for island cuisine and my desire to bring a taste of the Caribbean to Austin.”
