Earlier this summer, we broke down the 14 best bars and restaurants to watch all of the soccer action around town. So far it’s been a wild ride of emotions for the U.S. men's team as it barely made it out of the “Group of Death” to advance to the knockout stage. The tension will boil over as the team faces Belgium in a win-or-go-home showdown on Tuesday, July 1 at 3 pm.
There are countless places to watch the game in Austin, but you may find yourself having to fight the crowds to fit into most bars. Thankfully the Long Center is ready to throw one giant watch party for everyone in the city to enjoy.
Hosted by the Austin Aztex soccer team and sponsored by the Austin-American Statesman, Clear Channel and Humana, the World Cup watch party will take place on the lawn of the Long Center on Tuesday afternoon. Free and open to the public, the watch party is the perfect chance for local soccer fanatics to gather together and cheer on the U.S. team to victory.
The event kicks off at 2 pm, and guests will be able to watch the game on a jumbotron along with a giant sound system. As an extra bonus, food trailers will also be on site, because all of that chanting can really work up an appetite.
So round up your friends, find an excuse to leave work early and watch one of the biggest games of the year with the rest of the local futbol community.
