World's Best Awards
This is what discerning travelers love about Austin
Does it ever get exhausting being the best at everything? Humble brag aside, Austin is once again in the spotlight, this time as part of Travel + Leisure’s coveted World’s Best Awards.
In fact, Austin is tops for three separate categories in the travel magazine’s 21st annual awards. Voted on by T+L readers, the awards reveal top travel destinations and companies in the U.S. and around the world, ranging in categories from best cities and islands to best cruise lines, airlines, hotels, and more.
Austin takes home the No. 9 spot on the list of best U.S. cities. T+L readers rated Austin on its sights, culture, food, friendliness, shopping, and value. No doubt our outdoor and water offerings, delicious Tex-Mex and barbecue, and bustling nightlife helped anchor us within the top 10. The only other Texas city on the list is San Antonio, at No. 12.
And when visiting, it seems folks don't mind a stop at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. It ranks No. 4 on T+L’s best domestic airports list thanks to its easy-to-navigate layout and live music programming. Dallas Love Field also places, landing at No. 6. Portland International Airport holds down the No. 1 spot for the fourth year in a row with a score that has only increased over the years.
And finally, a favorite of T+L's savvy readers, Lake Austin Spa Resort ranks No. 8 for best destination spa in the U.S. A reader’s perspective sums up the exclusive Lake Austin experience:
“The spa offered a variety of unique massages and facials, which made the experience all the more special,” writes the reader. “The French chef there cooks everything to perfection, with beautiful food presentation.”
The only other Lone Star winners include a much-loved hotel and reliable airline. T+L reader favorite Mokara Hotel & Spa in San Antonio places at No. 14 among the nation's best city hotels. And Dallas-based Southwest Airlines ranks No. 5 for best domestic airline.
