Austin 'burbs land on list of best cities for young families
If you're looking for a pleasant place to raise your kids, you've already found it. A recent study ranks 15 Texas cities among the top places for young families to live — several of which are near Austin. Apartment List determined the "100 Best Cities for Young Families" by analyzing four factors that are important to families — safety, housing cost, school quality and child friendliness.
Austin area suburbs fare well, with Pflugerville, Round Rock and Georgetown claiming the No. 29, No. 31 and No. 49 spots respectively. Other Central Texas cities on the list include New Braunfels at No. 59 and Temple at No. 76.
Allen, Texas claims the No. 2 spot over all. This Dallas suburb has a high graduation rate and is only slightly less affordable than Fishers, Indiana, which came in first. Other Dallas suburbs on the list include Frisco (No. 5), followed by Flower Mound (No. 11), McKinney (No. 20), Mansfield (No. 24), Grapevine (No. 41) and Plano (No. 48).
Three Houston suburbs secured spots in the top 50 as well; Pearland came in at No. 21, League City was ranked at No. 34 and Sugar Land at No. 39.
More than half of the top 100 cities are located in just four states: Texas, California, Michigan and Minnesota. View the full list of rankings here.
