Austin high school ranks among America's best in 2025, per U.S. News

Austin has some incredible high schools.
A prestigious Austin high school is living up to its reputation for top-tier education after being ranked among the best high schools in the country, according to U.S. News and World Report's just-released annual rankings.
Austin Independent School District's Liberal Arts and Science Academy is clocking in as the fourth best high school in Texas, and the No. 36 best high school nationwide.
U.S. News annually evaluates about 24,000 public high schools on six factors: college readiness, college curriculum breadth, state assessment proficiency, state assessment performance, underserved student performance, and graduation rates. New for this year's batch of rankings, U.S. News discontinued its list of top magnet schools, citing a lack of new data from source Common Core of Data. The national best STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) and charter school rankings were unaffected.
Topping the 2025 list of best U.S. high schools is BASIS Tuscon North, a charter school in Tuscon, Arizona.
The Liberal Arts and Science Academy moved up two spots on the overall best high schools list after previously ranking 38th in last year's list. LASA also ranked No. 74 nationally among the best STEM schools, down from No. 52 in 2024.
"Students and families need data to help them make one of the most important decisions of their academic journey. Our Best High Schools rankings provide the insights to help them identify schools that will prepare students for college success," said U.S. News managing editor for education LaMont Jones, Ed.D., in a press release. "Access to information isn't just helpful — it's essential for planning a student's future."
Three additional Austin-area charter schools ranked among the top 100 in the country: Idea Rundberg College Preperatory (No. 48), Meridian School in Round Rock (No. 69), and Chaparral Star Academy (No. 84). Idea Rundberg also ranked as the 28th best high school in Texas (down from No. 22 last year), while Meridian School moved up two spots and now stands at No. 42 for 2025. Chaparral Star Academy fell several spots from its former No. 45 rank in 2024 and now appears as the 54th best high school in Texas.
