Distinguished architect Larry Speck graces Inside the Design Studio stage forintimate chat on design and culture
A man who's received a great deal of media attention lately will grace the intimate stage for the second installment of Inside the Design Studio at Lytle Pressley Contemporary on Thursday night. Architect and distinguished professor Larry Speck, currently on the shortlist of finalists to win the redesign of Waller Creek, is the second design luminary to partake in a candid conversation led by Pressley.
Says Speck: “I deeply love the process of design and my teaching and writing are aimed at educating people on the importance of great architecture in contemporary American culture.”
What audience members will get is the rare insight into the mind of a widely revered architectural icon who — though sought after across the nation — chooses to be based in our fair city of Austin.
At last month's Inside the Design Studiotalk with Dick Clark, the rapt audience was encouraged by Clark to “go travel,” as he clarified that "[the design field] is not so much about seeing iconic buildings, but rather observing how the structures impact the people who interact with them on a daily basis."
Like Clark, Speck is sure to impart wisdom from personal experiences and provide more than a fair share of laughs, engaging with the audience in an accessible, human way.
You needn't be in the design field yourself, but you should be curious — curious to learn about the driving force behind one accomplished person's passion, in his own words.
