Meet your maker: Feliz announces crafty, hands-on workshops in addition toholiday sale
Feliz, a weekend-long art show and sale, has announced a series of workshops that will be lead by a variety of artisans on Saturday, November 3, one day before the Feliz holiday shopping extravaganza takes over the Palm Door.
Back in June, we met with co-creators Natalie Davis and Abby Powell, who described Feliz as a way to "bring handmade to the masses in a way that's thoughtful and well-curated." As artists themselves, the two combined forces to tap into a dense network of "local and national artists, makers and craftspeople" who would be interested in showing and selling their work during the first weekend of November at the Feliz holiday sale.
However, the idea of a holiday sale quickly expanded into a three-day event where customers and artists could interact on a level more intimate than a sales transaction. "When we started planning Feliz, it was very important that this event be more than just selling things," says Powell of the addition of workshops. "We are lucky to have learned a lot from friends and mentors and wanted to pass that great feeling around."
Eight individual workshops were announced on Monday, ranging from lessons in indigo dying to the intricacies of jewelry making. Be warned that each workshop comes at a price, but all last for several hours under the guidance of a well-known artisan with an average cap of 10-15 students.
