Google launches overnight delivery service for Austin shoppers
The phrase "Google it" is taking on a whole new meaning: On June 1, Google launched its overnight and two-day delivery service across parts of Texas — including Austin-Round Rock.
With Google Express, shoppers can get anything from sodas to shoes delivered by placing an order through the website or mobile app. The Texas expansion covers Austin, Houston, and Dallas-Fort Worth, as well as Abilene, College Station, Killeen, Tyler, Waco, and Wichita Falls. The 3-year-old service also serves Boston; New York; Washington, D.C.; California; and most of the Midwest.
"Our goal with Google Express is to offer a great shopping experience and connect people with their favorite stores," said Brian Elliott, Google Express general manager, in a release. "Today, we're very excited to be further expanding our efforts, making it easy for millions in Texas, Oklahoma, and beyond to get things they need from stores they love — delivered fast."
Overnight delivery in Austin is available from Barnes & Noble, Costco, PetSmart, Walgreens, and Whole Foods Market. Retailers offering two-day delivery include Ace Hardware, Bed Bath & Beyond, Buy Buy Baby, Fry's, Guitar Center, Kohl's, L'Occitane, Moosejaw, Roadrunner Sports, Sur La Table, Treasure Island Foods, Ulta, and Vitamin Shop.
Free delivery is included with a $95 Google Express annual membership. The delivery fee for nonmembers is $4.99 per eligible order. Austinites can sign up for a free six-month trial membership by July 1.
