President Obama brings SXSW spinoff to the White House lawn
President Barack Obama is partnering with South by Southwest to bring a mini version of the inspirational Austin event to the White House lawn this fall.
On Monday, October 3, the country's brightest minds will converge in Washington for South by South Lawn. The initiative is inspired by Obama's keynote speech during the 2016 festival.
"South by South Lawn, an event inspired by South by Southwest, will bring together creators, innovators, and organizers who work day in and day out to improve the lives of their fellow Americans and people around the world," states a White House blog post.
Like SXSW, the event will feature interactive, music, and film components. Interactive programming will include panels and booths that highlight new technologies and ground-breaking topics, and the music segment will feature inspiring performances from well-known and emerging artists. The film portion will manifest as the third annual White House Student Film Festival, which showcases short, student-made flicks.
Know someone who should be part of South by South Lawn? You can nominate a creator, innovator, organizer, or yourself via this online form. The deadline for nominations is Saturday, September 10, at 5 pm.
SXSW returns to Austin March 10-19, 2017.
