No More Mettle
Yet another East Austin restaurant unexpectedly pulls the plug
Another one bites the dust: Mettle, the East Austin eatery from Bridget Dunlap, has closed.
The bistro, which was the first restaurant concept for Dunlap and parent company Dunlap ATX, served French and New American fare in a modern building shared with other businesses like Hops & Grain and Sky Candy Aerial Studio.
In a statement released Sunday night, Mettle announced the following:
“Dunlap ATX has made the decision to close Mettle effective Monday, January 4, and will be repurposing the space with a new concept that is expected to open in early February. Thanks for all the memories and stay tuned for details!”
Mettle opened its doors in summer 2013 as one of the most anticipated restaurant openings of the season. Unfortunately, lots of anticipation and a popular Sunday brunch couldn’t save the restaurant, as Dunlap ATX reports that the decision to close “was based on lagging sales.” Mettle now joins a slew of other closed restaurants including the newly shuttered laV.
Dunlap continues to operate recently opened pizza restaurant Burn as well as bars Lustre Pearl East, Clive, Bar 96, and Container Bar.
