Super Bowl Sunday
The ultimate guide to having the best Super Bowl Sunday in Austin
The Denver Broncos will face off against the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50 this weekend. That said, everyone knows Super Bowl Sunday is really just an excuse to continue eating and drinking your way through the weekend. While we're not sure who will take home the Lombardi Trophy, we can suggest some food and drink winners for you.
The Local
Across from the University of Texas campus, The Local's usual college crowd will be joined by Austin's resident Denver Bronco fans this Sunday. Regardless of where you're from, things are going to get rowdy at the city's designated Broncos bar. The Local is likely to feel more like Mile High Stadium as everyone cheers on Peyton Manning and the boys in orange.
San Jac Saloon
If you'd rather dab with Cam Newton and the Carolina fans, head to the Panthers watch party at San Jac Saloon. The Dirty Sixth bar will get wild as the blue and black compete for its first Super Bowl victory. Brace yourself for the inevitable "MVP" chants.
Whisler's
Whisler's is stepping it up with a Super Bowl party that is uniquely Austin. As if its normal drink menu and outdoor patio weren't reason enough to go, the east side bar is featuring La Barbecue, Bloody Marys, and specialty themed cocktails.
Black Sheep Lodge
No matter who you root for, fans can flock to Black Sheep Lodge for big screen TVs and an extensive beer menu. The South Lamar Boulevard sports bar is offering bulk wing orders in addition to its terrific bar menu. Don't be afraid to up the ante with $5 and $10 football squares.
Bar 96
There's no need for Sunday Funday to end at kickoff. Head to Bar 96 for an ideal setup with 17 TVs and a massive outdoor patio with plenty of seating. Treat yourself to some deliciousness from the Bomb Tacos food truck at halftime, or keep the games going with cornhole and ring toss.
W Austin Hotel
The W Austin's Living Room Lounge is a great place to catch the game for locals and traveling football fans. The live feed will start at 4 pm through a large projector on the W's screened-in porch for the ultimate viewing experience. The watch party will have happy hour specials and complimentary halftime sandwiches.
To-go options
If you would rather stay on the sidelines and avoid the madness at the bars, these local eateries are featuring special to-go menus and deals that are sure to be a touchdown.
Party packs from Contigo
In addition to Contigo's regular dine-in menu, the East Austin restaurant and patio bar has some stellar to-go specials. Multiple party pack options include pigs in a blanket, chili, cauliflower, five-layer dip, and game day brats as well as "just add booze" batches of its famous cocktails. Packages can be ordered by calling the restaurant or through Contigo's website.
Wings and snacks from Fresa's
Fresa's Chicken al Carbon, known for its tasty takeout and drive-thru offerings, is preparing a special Super Bowl menu that satisfies both football fans and foodies alike. Sunday's snacks include game day classics like wood-grilled wings and jalapeño poppers. Don't skimp on the seven-layer dip, complete with Fresa's famous sweet corn.
The Salt Lick barbecue courtesy of Favor
No need to miss any of the action on or off the field. Two local favorites are teaming up to deliver delicious barbecue directly to your doorstep just in time for kickoff. From 3 to 7 pm on Sunday, Favor will bus ribs, brisket, sausage, and more straight from The Salt Lick. Barbecue plates, desserts, and meat by the pound will be offered — perfect for any Super Bowl experience.
