As the Rock Rose block within The Domain heats up, the area’s newest cocktail lounge prepares to launch Wednesday evening. Introducing St. Genevieve, an upscale lounge serving delicious handcrafted drinks and gourmet bites.
Setting up its new home in North Austin, anyone who went to the old St. Genevieve in Houston will immediately recognize the Austin transplant. With its signature blue infused throughout and Mediterranean-style ceilings, a large circular bar centers the lounge where guests gather for lively conversation.
Nine signature drinks are featured on the cocktail menu. Opt for the refreshing Namaste made with Grey Goose Le Citron vodka, St. Germain, lime juice, green tea syrup, mint leaves, and prosecco; the I Dream of Genevieve with Bombay Sapphire gin, rose water, and St. Germain topped with rose petals; or the Cobbler Old Fashioned, which is like dessert in a glass (but not overly sweet), made with Bulleit bourbon, peach bitters, cinnamon, brown sugar, and muddled peach. More than 40 wines are offered as well as bottled beers.
The food menu is equally impressive and utilizes a global approach. Diners can share plates reflecting the Middle East, South America, and Mediterranean regions like the Mumbai fried chicken with tamarind chutney, pickled watermelon, and coconut; the short rib taquitos with spicy avocado cream; or the hummus and Parmesan guacamole with house-made pita chips. Flatbreads are also a must-try here, and we recommend ordering the pear and prosciutto with crumbled blue cheese, arugula, red onion, and truffle oil or the roasted mushroom flatbread with garlic, Parmesan, cracked egg, fresh parsley, and truffle.
“[St. Genevieve] brings people together over drinks and cuisine,” says Co-owner Darren Van Delden. “We’re not reinventing the wheel, just giving it a twist with international flavor.”
This is one of six concepts brothers and business partners Jeff and Darren Van Delden will own at The Domain. Their existing outposts include Somersault, The Park, and Jack and Ginger’s Irish Pub. Joining St. Genevieve will be a large, three-story nightclub on top of the space called Rose Room, which will open on weekends only. Next door (also upstairs from St. Genevieve) will be 77 Degrees, a rooftop bar that will be open during the week but will join Rose Room as one giant venue on weekends.
Having been invested in the development of The Domain for the past five years, the Van Delden brothers, of Union Venture Group, are helping to shape the local flavor and nightlife scene popping up in the Rock Rose district. To grow this, St. Genevieve will have an in-house DJ playing Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings as well as during Sunday brunch, which will offer dishes like English toffee pancakes and goat cheese frittatas.
St. Genevieve is open Monday through Saturday from 3 pm to 2 am, and Sunday from 11 am to 2 am. Additionally, catch the cocktail lounge’s wine-focused happy hour Monday through Friday from 3 to 7 pm.
