Austin Newest Dessert Craze
Hey Cupcake! ice cream coming soon to sweet new location
Cake or ice cream? Now you can have both. Two of the city’s most popular dessert trailers, Hey Cupcake! and Coolhaus, are combining confectionery powers to bring Cupcake Ice Cream to Austin. The delicious partnership will kick off in conjunction with the long awaited opening of The Picnic trailer park on Barton Springs Rd. The park, which will be home to a new Hey Cupcake! Airstream trailer, could open as early as the end of March.
Bits of cupcake goodness will be mixed in with Coolhaus ice cream.
Initially, customers will be able to choose from three flavors — vanilla, chocolate and Hey Cupcake! fan favorite red velvet. Bits of cupcake goodness will be mixed in with the Coolhaus ice creams of the same flavors. Cupcake Ice Cream will be served up as fresh scoops to enjoy immediately, as well as in take-home pints to savor later.
Hey Cupcake! has long dreamed of making ice cream to keep people cool in the hot summers. “Up until the end of 2013,” says marketing manager Alan Kahler, “we thought we would make it ourselves, but we then decided we couldn’t really manufacture it ourselves.” Hey Cupcake! found a partner in fellow dessert trailer Coolhaus.
Both trailers are ready to start slinging the sugary mix. Kahler says the ice cream will debut at the new Hey Cupcake! location, and will also be sold at Coolhaus' Midway location and from its mobile truck. The Picnic trailer park is still under construction, but Kahler says that the goal is to be ready to go at the end of the month.
And, since we know that dogs can have a sweet tooth, too, ice cream doggie bones, a mix of peanut butter and soy, will also be offered.
