Continue your cleansing diet at several of these health-conscious trailers
Spring is in the air, and many Austinites are taking the time to cleanse and enjoy the great outdoors. This week we take a look at how you can continue your cleanse routine by biking or walking to several health-conscious trailers.
Sun Farm Kitchen, located on East 11th and Lydia is powered by its backyard garden. Owner Kesten Broughton will take you on a garden tour while your local, organic food is prepared in the artistically painted trailer that sits proudly in the lot. The avocado shake and Caribbean carrot latte are two menu items that are both vegan and raw. He added three raw desserts to the menu, and his salads are appropriate for cleansing as well. Often the Sun Farm Kitchen's daily specials, like the walnut pate, are of the healthiest persuasions.
- Caribbean carrot latte: $4 carrot juice, coconut milk and angustara bitters
- Avocado shake: $5 avocado, your choice of milk and agave
Newcomer to the mobile food truck scene, Blenders and Bowls, is opening a brick and mortar café within the new Wanderlust Live yoga studio on 4th and Brazos on April 16. The acai-themed truck will continue to roam the streets, serving freshly frozen fruit and berry smoothies and bowls for special events and occasions. Naturally cleansing foods and drinks make up Blenders and Bowls' entire menu. The acai smoothie is their best-seller, followed closely by the mango. It’s popular to add Spirulina, a natural algae, to make it greener and more vegetable-like. Regarding their bowls, the chill berry is a favorite of gogi-lovers.
- Acai Blender: $5.50 organic acai, strawberries and bananas with apple juice
- Mango Blender: $5.50 mango and bananas with pineapple juice
- The Chill Berry Bowl: $7 organic acai blended with apple juice, topped with hemp granola, chilled blueberries, goji berries, strawberries, chia seeds, bee pollen and drizzled with local Round Rock honey
Gonzo Juice's permanent home is on 45th and Airport Boulevard, but it does take flight for festivals like the upcoming Chicken Coop Tour and Austin Earth Day. Kids at heart, the Gonzo-theme was inspired in part by none other than their favorite muppet, as well as Hunter S. Thompson's style of Gonzo journalism. The Barn Raiser, an eclectic juice blend, is the best seller. All juices are reasonably priced at $4 for 12oz., $5 for 16 oz., or $6 for 20 oz. Also on the menu are salads, wraps and hot sandwiches.
- Barn raiser: $5 jalapeno, garlic, ginger, beet, spinach and apple
- Melon patch: $5 orange, lemon-lime, and watermelon
- Dad’s truck: $5 carrot, beet and apple
