Cool vegan ice cream shop starts churning in Austin
Austin's newest vegan ice cream shop, Vicecreme, is now open at 6550 Comanche Trail, next to The Oasis on Lake Travis.
The shop is helmed by brother-and-sister duo Mike Limongelli and Gina Galvan, who aim to spread awareness about environmental issues brought on by the meat and dairy industry. The menu ditches dairy without sacrificing flavor, resulting in a "guilt-free dessert that you can enjoy whether you're a vegan or not," says Limongelli.
Expect fresh soft serve, as well as ice cream scoops, cookie ice cream sandwiches, banana splits, brownie sundaes, and shakes with your choice of toppings. Six flavors, which will rotate regularly, include classics like rocky road, cookies and cream, mint chocolate chip, and pistachio. Soft serve comes in chocolate, vanilla, and banana-vanilla.
Doors officially opened April 16, and the team celebrated a grand opening on April 22. Hours are noon to 10 pm, Wednesday through Sunday. The duo hopes to expand the shop to include wholesale and retail options from other local vegan vendors.
