After months of anticipation, East Austin's newest dive bar, Moloko, has an opening date. The lounge, an homage to the cult classic A Clockwork Orange debuts Wednesday, October 26.

The bar's name refers to the blend of milk and designer drugs served to characters in the book and Stanley Kubrick's 1971 film adaptation. While there won't be any illicit substances on tap at Moloko, patrons can expect craft cocktails and other adult beverages.

Moloko is owned and operated by Charlie Valentine and Miguel Jimenez, an industry veteran who also owns Nomad, St. Roch's, and the Lost Well.

In addition to the cult favorite, Valentine said the aesthetic is also inspired by the New York City punk scene. Moloko combines midcentury simplicity with a layer of grittiness: "simple, clean, chic, yet still rustic and with genuine character," he said in an interview earlier this year.

"The bar's focal point will be the clientele, which will be primarily made up of the psych/garage rock scene of ATX and touring bands, hospitality and industry professionals, neighborhood locals, artists, and fellow east side business owners," Valentine explained.

Moloko joins Full Circle Bar, King Bee Lounge, Dozen Street, and Rio Rita's new location at the intersection of 12th and Chicon streets. Hours are 5 pm to 2 am daily.
