Restaurant Roundup
These 10 restaurants are totally worth the drive to West Austin
Far West Austin is an oasis of new restaurants and old favorites, so we're taking you on a culinary trek down Ranch Road 620. These are 10 of the best restaurants along the corridor, from Bee Cave all the way to Cedar Park.
827Ray's Kitchen + Cellar
This newcomer has swiftly become a neighborhood go-to, as well as a dining destination for those outside the area. There's a lot to love at 827Ray's, including the baked goat cheese appetizer. The wine list is extensive and varied, and chef/owner Wayne Brooks and his staff are more than happy to provide a recommendation. Keep an eye out for themed art dinners in conjunction with the Russell Collection.
Almarah Mediterranean Cuisine
Almarah is the perfect place for meat lovers and vegetarians alike. While the more traditional Mediterranean plates are the way to go — the shawarma is juicy and the pita bread is fresh — the pizza and wings are a hit too.
The Grove Wine Bar & Kitchen
While wine is certainly the name of the game here, the menu of small plates and entrees makes The Grove a top-notch dining option. The Lakeway location also boasts fantastic views from its patio and serves as a great spot for a wine-filled happy hour.
Hudson's on the Bend
We're in love with the reincarnation of this legendary restaurant, now helmed by chef Billy Caruso and sommelier Chris McFall. Wild game remains the star of the menu, but Caruso has added more seafood options and small plates to complement the heartier dishes. You'll also find new versions of Hudson's classics.
Jenna's Asian Kitchen
Jenna's menu showcases a variety of Asian influences, including Chinese, Korean, and Malaysian. Dishes range from American standards like from General Tso's chicken to more authentic items such as bulgogi. The Sunday lunch buffet is a great way to try a lot of the offerings in one sitting.
The League Kitchen & Tavern
The tavern is a lively spot suitable for sports watching, while the kitchen boasts a menu ranging from burgers to comfort favorites like fish and chips, crispy ribs, and chicken pot pie. You can also look forward to weekday happy hour and weekend brunch.
Lucy's on the Lake
Famous for fried chicken, the lakeside outpost of the popular local chain has an impressive lineup of signature drinks too. Pair one with signature chicken or fresh oysters and unbeatable views.
Sandeez Hamburger Hut
Look for the Bucket List Burgers. This Lakeway go-to has been serving up solid burgers since 1979. You can also fill up on hot dogs, sandwiches, chicken-fried steak, Frito pie, and huge breakfast tacos.
Santa Catarina Restaurant
This Lakeway spot serves authentic Mexican cuisine with serious cred. Open for lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch, it's also a great option for a margarita (or two) — the cantina has happy hour seven days a week.
Schmidt Family Barbecue
Schmidt Family Barbecue in Bee Cave is just a short distance from where 620 meets Highway 71. Bring a group and opt for the family pack or indulge in your own meat plate. Options include brisket, pulled pork, ribs, sausage, chicken, and turkey. Tip: Go early for barbecue breakfast tacos.
