Wine and Roses
College Station winery hosts 2-day festival with dinners and workshops

Messina Hof Winery has planned a busy weekend for the Wine & Roses festival.
Wine lovers in Austin are probably familiar with some wineries west of town, but one in Bryan (neighboring College Station) makes a strong case for heading east on April 25 and 26. Messina Hof Winery will host the Wine & Roses Festival, offering two busy days of wine tasting, making, dinners, and more.
There are seven events planned for the festival, and some of them are available on individual tickets. Others, like the local vendor fair all weekend, are part of a package for custom-building a visitor's ideal experience.
Kicking things off on Friday, there's just one event: the Spring Wine Release Dinner. The multi-course dinner will feature a series of wine pairings and embody the theme "Modern Renaissance." The goal is to "embrace the botanical influences that were part of Renaissance gardens and herbal practices in the backdrop of our modern age," according to the ticketing page.
The dinner will support the Arts Center of Brazos Valley and includes a silent auction for community artwork, experiences, and "handmade pieces." Finally, dinner attendees will also vote in an art competition building on the same theme as the dinner. Standalone tickets ($110) are available.
On Saturday, there's one individually ticketed event and four additional experiences included in higher-priced ticket tiers. A base ticket type costs $35, followed by a "foodie package" for $110 and an "ultimate package" for $150. A full schedule and tickets are available via Tock.
The Grape Stomp Competition is the standalone offering. Teams of 2-4 people can get together and crush grapes with their feet, participating in a practice that Messina Hof traces back to ancient Rome. Tickets are $50 per team.
Four additional experiences remain:
- Crafting Charcuterie with Karen: Chief administrative officer and co-owner Karen Bonarrigo leads guests in creating the perfect charcuterie medleys.
- Rosé Rendezvous: Winemaker and co-owner Paul M. Bonarrigo turns the focus rosé, offering an "aroma lab" to break down how different rosés smell and taste.
- Barrels & BBQ: "Robust reds" are paired with a barbecue buffet at the Vintage House Restaurant. Pairings are chosen by the winemaker.
- Wine Cocktail Workshop: Perhaps the most unconventional offering, this workshop teaches guests to make three cocktails with wine.
Messina Hof has locations in Fredericksburg, Grapevine, and Richmond. The Bryan location (4545 Old Reliance Rd.) was the first to open, dating back to 1977. The winery has won hundreds of awards for both overall quality and individual wines, including the Top Texas Winery saddle at the 2023 Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo International Wine Competition.
