X Games Austin returns: Who tops Kanye West as this year's big headliner?
On Tuesday, X Games Austin confirmed a handful of headliners for the music lineup in addition to two new sports disciplines for the 2015 festival, which is scheduled to return to the Circuit of the Americas from June 4-7.
Hot off her Pinkprint tour, hip-hop star Nicki Minaj will perform on the new Super Stage, which promises to serve as a larger, more inclusive venue than the stage that hosted Kanye West and The Flaming Lips last year. "I look forward to channeling the energy and spirit from the X Games into a performance Austin will not forget," Minaj said in a press release.
In addition to the Super Stage, the Sound Factory Stage presented by KUTX will showcase performances from Deltron 3030, Talib Kweli and Pennywise. More acts will be released as the festival draws closer, but KUTX has already curated an impressive local lineup that includes Zeale, Bright Light Social Hour, Walker Lukens, Ume and A. Sinclair.
These musical revelations come following December's announcement of two new disciplines for X Games 2015: Big Air Doubles and Moto X Quarterpipe. Big Air Doubles will merge skateboard and BMX contestants together in a clash of teams while Moto X Quarterpipe will pit six competitors against one another to see who can pull off the best stunt. Returning categories include Big Air, Vert, Park and Super Rally as well as Moto X Step Up, which will throw down in front of the Texas State Capitol again this year.
Tickets for X Games Austin will be available for purchase beginning Friday, January 23 through Ticketmaster. Three-day passes start at $109.
