Chic South Congress hotel named best for families by Good Housekeeping
Aside from being very chic, Colton House Hotel is very accommodating to families with kids.
One of Austin’s greatest strengths (at least for its legions of visitors) is its wide selection of boutique hotels, and one South Congress standout is representing the city in Good Housekeeping's new awards.
The venerated publication has selected Austin’s Colton House Hotel as one of five winning Southern destinations for its first-ever Family Travel Awards, calling it a “spacious suite retreat.”
Good Housekeeping sent more than 75 testers out, some with families, to scout great travel locales in the United States, Mexico, and the Caribbean, taking into account experience, amenities, sustainability, inclusion, and more, for a well-rounded snapshot. Along with write-ins, they determined that Colton House was especially good for families who would like some separation between rooms to really relax.
In addition to the multi-room suites the tester pointed out, Colton House was majorly accommodating to kids. A family dinner in — homemade in the full kitchen or kitchenette, or from the onsite food truck — can go smoothly with a “children's eating kit.” Packing is light and laundry is streamlined with a washer and dryer. Toys and games are also on-loan outside.
While all these touches are excellent news for families, the posh hotel can be very adult for other travelers. The stylish decor includes lots of oriental rugs, leather, and tufted accents, and the pool’s private cabanas maintain some personal space on the deck. A coffee and cocktail lounge, Simona, provides a beautiful getaway for planning next moves out in the city, or relaxing without FOMO about what’s going on a few blocks away. This hotel is not a budget option, so although kids will be well cared-for, large families are probably not going to be the main clientele.
Colton House was the only Austin establishment featured in the lengthy awards, and it was one of only two hotels in the South. This isn't the only accolade for the hotel, which was named one of the hottest in the U.S. by TripAdvisor earlier this year.
