Exclusive first look at new bar's takeover of iconic Austin space
We have your first look at The Local Post, the new restaurant and bar opening January 18 in the former Dallas Nightclub space on Burnet Road. Until now, little has been revealed about the neighborhood pub since it was first announced last summer.
The concept is Texas comfort food with Tex-Mex flare. Dishes include burgers, brisket sliders, chicken wings, nachos, and even a chimichanga. Salads and wraps also make an appearance. The family-friendly lunchtime atmosphere will transition into a 21-and-up space in the evenings.
The pub is large, with three different bars, ensuring you won't have to walk far to order a drink. There's plenty of seating, both indoor and outside on a large patio. A back room, which can be used to host private events, is home to several games, including shuffleboard, poker, basketball, and more.
"The neighborhood is awesome. Burnet is growing, and we wanted to be a part of that," owner Jeff Van Delden tells CultureMap. "But they're missing something of this size. There are a lot of small places — Lala's is one of my favorites — but nothing that could seat this many people."
Van Delden runs The Local Post with his brother, Darren, both of Union Venture Group. The local development firm has brought us The Park, as well as St. Genevieve, Jack & Ginger's Irish Pub, 77 Degrees, and The Rose Room along the Rock Rose strip at Domain Northside.
The Local Post will be open for lunch, dinner, and happy hour daily. Hours are 11 am to 2 am. "We're trying to be something for everyone," he says.
