Paramount announces more than 100 movies for classic summer series
One of the best ways to beat Austin's scorching summer heat is spending a nice, cool evening in a movie theater. This summer marks the 40th anniversary of the Summer Classic Film Series at the Paramount Theatre, a perfect activity for your summer to-do list.
On Tuesday the Austin icon, which is celebrating 100 years on Congress Avenue, announced the lineup for the series. More than 100 movies from varying cinematic themes will be screened throughout the summer.
The series opens with Casablanca on May 22 and closes with the equally classic love story, Gone With the Wind, on September 6. Outstanding themes include a week of Alfred Hitchcock films, all three Back to the Future installments, and a rom-com series featuring It Happened One Night,Sleepless in Seattle,When Harry Met Sally and more.
In addition to the stacked lineup, the Paramount Theatre will host two special events. Acclaimed director Richard Linklater presents Me And Orson Welles on June 2, and Martinis & Manicures returns on June 14 with a screening of Breakfast at Tiffany's.
