Catch these 8 holiday classics screening in Austin this week

Is the holiday spirit giving you an overwhelming desire to cuddle up with some Christmas classics? Check out one of these special movie screening and catch an old favorite in the theater once again.

As part of its Movie Monday series, Empire Control Room is hosting a free screening of perhaps the two most non-Christmasy Christmas movies on Monday, December 22 at 7 pm. Watch Die Hard and Gremlins while you enjoy happy hour all night and free play on the arcade consoles.

Relive your childhood (not literally, we hope) with a showing of Home Alone at Flix Brewhouse on Monday, December 22 at 7:30 pm. You can splurge on extra eats and drinks during the film, because tickets are only $5 each.

This free movie marathon at the University Hills branch library starts at 11 am on Tuesday, December 23 and lasts all day. You can show up for one flick or stay for the entire lineup, which includes National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, The Polar Express, Unaccompanied Minors and Gremlins.

"This is a full-blown, four-alarm holiday emergency here."
Lean seat back for a screening of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and Die Hard at Blue Starlite Urban Mini Drive-in on Tuesday, December 23. Prices vary depending on how many people you bring and the snacks you purchase, but we suggest going all out for this holiday double feature.

Love Actually is one of the best holiday movies and rom-coms all tied into one beautiful package. Love it like you've never loved it before during a special quote-along at the Alamo Drafthouse Ritz on Christmas day. Tickets range from $12-$44.

Walker Lukens to put on The Last Walt II at The Paramount

Thanksgiving is a wrap and Christmas draws near, which means that the time to get out of the house is right now. When you do, make sure to take in some of the many great local artists that are set to play in the first half of December. Recommendations can be found here.

Triple Single Release Show at The Mohawk – Thursday, December 5
Three local indie acts – Booher, Parker Woodland, and Rrrunnerrss – are all set to release new singles this week, and they’ll be joining together for a show in celebration of the occasion at the Mohawk this Thursday, December 5. Tickets for this excellent triple bill are $10.

The Last Walt II at The Paramount – Friday, December 6
Singer/songwriter Walker Lukens returns to the Paramount this Friday, December 6, with the second iteration of his variety show The Last Walt. This evening of music will feature a slew of special guests, including Adrian Quesada (Black Pumas), Kam Franklin (The Suffers), Tameca Jones, L.C. Franke, BRUCE, and lots more. Tickets range from $22 to $55.

Spaceflight Records' 5th Anniversary Show at Radio East – Friday, December 6
Join local imprint Spaceflight Records at Radio East this Friday, December 6, as the team celebrates their fifth anniversary. Psych rock stars The Black Angels will headline the event, which will also feature Nolan Potter’s Nightmare Band, Anastasia Hera, and DJ Zapot (Golden Dawn Arkestra). Tickets are $18.40.

Urban Heat at Elysium – Thursday, December 12
After a busy year that saw Urban Heat release a fantastic new album, The Tower, and tour all over the place, the synth rockers will have a homecoming show at Elysium on Thursday, December 12. Art Verus Industry and Night Ritualz will kick things off. Tickets are $25.65.

Nightmare B4 Xmas at Hotel Vegas – Thursday, December 12
Hotel Vegas will once again host Nolan Potter’s Nightmare B4 Xmas Party on Thursday, December 12. Aside from Nolan Potter’s Nightmare Band, the show will have performances by Heavy Meddo (featuring Britt Daniel of Spoon), Grandmaster, Grocery Bag, Queen Serene, and Borzoi. Tickets are $24.08.

Howdy Gals’ 7^th Anniversary Show at Antone’s – Saturday, December 14
Local booker/promoter Howdy Gals will ring in their seventh anniversary at Antone’s on Saturday, December 14, with a State Fair themed event. Susannah Joffe, Sleep Well, Stalefish, and Care About will all perform, and there will be vendors and carny games on hand as well. Tickets are $15.

Holiday Hootenanny at Radio East – December 14-15
Austin’s own photog extraordinaire Pooneh Ghana and Resound have teamed up to put on Holiday Hootenanny, a two-day event at Radio East on December 14 & 15. The lineup isn’t entirely local, but it does feature a slew of the city’s best acts, including Bayonne, Voxtrot, Font, Being Dead, TC Superstar, and more. Single-day tickets are $39.50 and two-day tickets are $75.
