Lone Star List
BuzzFeed takes a stab at unearthing the things Austinites loves most
Do you love tacos? Shelter dogs? Doing lots of yoga (in various places)? Then you're a true Austinite, at least by BuzzFeed standards. In another infinitely shareable post, the site has shed light on the secret sauce of life in Austin.
BuzzFeed's Laura Seago stepped onto the soapbox Tuesday with a list of "34 Things Austinites Love." Not surprisingly, it balances quintessential experiences like Barton Springs and Austin City Limits Music Festival with quirkier icons including El Arroyo's ever-changing sign and all of the stores on South Congress.
Although the main threads are rather trite, Seago's list does seem to conjure the local pride and essence of what makes life in Austin worth living. Yes, we love barbecue (obviously!), queso and iconic graffiti. But we also love intangibles like standing up for what we believe in (see recent scenes from the Capitol) and expressing ourselves (cue that guy that rides a bike in his thong).
Whatever your thoughts on the accuracy of the list, we're sure it will be fodder at happy hours around town this week. You know, over a Rainey Street margarita or some live music downtown.
