There's no place like Austin for the holidays. In fact, in a festive new report, Austin unwraps the gift of being the No. 1 place in Texas for celebrating Christmas.
To determine the best places for Christmas celebrations, WalletHub compared the 100 largest U.S. cities based on 33 metrics, such as Christmas events per capita, average price for a ticket to a Christmas party, and shopping centers and outlet malls per capita.
The personal finance website loaded all of that data into five carts: traditions and fun, holiday observance, generosity, shopping, and costs.
Overall, Austin comes in tops in Texas and No. 13 in the U.S. Austin ranks No. 8 out of 100 for shopping, and it snags the No. 16 ranking in the traditions and fun category and No. 21 for costs. The Capital City's two lower grades are in the observance (No. 44) and generosity (No. 73) groupings.
Elsewhere in Texas, Dallas shines at No. 18, followed by Houston at No. 23 and San Antonio at No. 25. Fort Worth falls to the middle at No. 49. On the naughty list are Garland, No. 93, and Laredo, No. 97.
Among the 100 largest cities, Atlanta shines as the star atop the Christmas tree with a No. 1 ranking.
