Cookie Season
Your field guide to finding elusive Girl Scout cookies around Austin
It's time to loosen that belt and ditch those New Year's resolutions — Girl Scout cookie season begins this week. Starting Wednesday, January 21, you'll be able to purchase the delicious (and sometimes elusive) seasonal treats around Austin.
Rumors of a new online cookie ordering option are true, but the Girl Scouts of Central Texas are not participating in the digital program. However, you can use the Girl Scout's online Cookie Finder tool to scout where different troops will be selling cookies nearby. Simply enter your ZIP code on the Girl Scout website or through the smartphone app and Cookie Finder will pull up the nearest cookie sales happening that day.
This year's cookie lineup includes two newcomers: an aptly named oatmeal raisin creation, Rah-Rah Raisins, plus the gluten-free Toffee-tastic. All of the usual suspects will also be available, including Thin Mints, Tagalongs, Samoas, Do-si-dos and Trefoils. Each flavor is available for $4 per box, except for the new Toffee-tastic ($5 per box).
According to the Girl Scouts of Central Texas, local troops raised $8.6 million and sold more than two million boxes last year. Proceeds from cookie sales go directly to various facets of Girl Scout programming.
You have until February 27 to grab a box (or 10). If you've promised to stick to that New Year's diet, don't forget that you can also purchase a "Hero Box," which can be sent to military service members overseas or donated to a local charity.
