Delicious new restaurant opens soon at top Austin museum
Last year the Bullock Texas State History Museum announced a search for a new operator of its in-house restaurant and cafe — and the choice has been made. Raj Singh, the owner of Delicious on South Lamar Boulevard, will be at the helm when the eatery opens in February.
Expect Texas favorites and twists on comfort food. Like its sister restaurant, the Bullock cafe will focus on locally sourced ingredients and healthy, but tasty, food.
"We're very pleased to have the amazing team from Delicious craft a new, 21st century museum cafe experience," interim museum director Margaret Koch says in a release. "They've made a commitment to provide the best service and affordable sustenance for visitors of all ages. It's a perfect fit for the Bullock Museum, one we hope will also make the cafe a destination in itself."
The museum's central location — next to the University of Texas at Austin campus and near the Texas State Capitol — combined with 450,000 annual visitors means a built-in audience for the restaurant.
The 6,800-square-foot space was redesigned by Verokolt, the firm responsible for the signature look of Elm Restaurant Group's Easy Tiger, 24 Diner, and Irene's. The cafe comes with enough seating for 150-plus diners, indoors and out.
Bullock's new restaurant will be open during museum hours (typically 9 am-5 pm Monday through Saturday, noon-5 pm Sunday).
