For more than a year, iconic eatery The Omelettry has been planning a move to Airport Boulevard. Now, the restaurant has announced the last day of its original location and details about the new spot.
Monday, May 4 will be The Omelettry's last day on Burnet Road, its home for the past 37 years. "Another long-time Austin landmark will be torn down and replaced by luxury apartments as Burnet Road continues its metamorphosis," states a press release from the restaurant.
The Omelettry will leave now-trendy Burnet Road for another up-and-coming corridor of Central Austin. The new location, 4631 Airport Blvd., will offer simple updates (like better plumbing and electricity) and the same funky, eclectic vibe.
"We know folks are attached to this building, but we’re more than just this place," said co-owner Jesse Carpenter in the release. "The Omelettry’s soul is in its food, staff and the community it creates." Father-son team Kenny and Jesse Carpenter expect to open the new location in mid- to late-May.
