Bundles of Joy
Austin women deliver new company curated for brand-new moms
A group of enterprising Austinites is trying to ease the burden of the notorious "fourth trimester" for new mothers everywhere. La Mama Care, founded earlier this year, creates, curates, and sells postpartum boxes for new moms, offering a selection of goodies to help foster a new mom's health and wellbeing.
Retailing for $59.99, the debut box, entitled Every Mama Cares, features Austin-based products including AustiNuts, customized Simple Modern water bottle, Earth Modern lip balm, Medela reusable breast pads, a custom wrap, Handzies Natural Soap and Water Wipes, an Antiquaria notebook, and La Mama Care pen.
La Mama Care was founded by Nique Mayo; Anne Clary; and Jacqueline Chandler, a certified doula. All parents themselves, the three entrepreneurs found a significant gap in support for new mothers in the three months after giving birth, according to a release. La Mama Care intends to ease this burden by returning focus to the mother, not just the baby.
"We believe there is a distinct gap between the amount of support moms get during pregnancy versus after childbirth. Our mission is to ensure the mom feels seen, heard, and cared for even after this new bundle comes into her life,” says Mayo in a release.
In curating the items, the founders focused on items that are natural; safe for mother and child; and support other women-led, Austin-based companies whenever possible. The goal, the founders say, is to supplement modern healthcare with items a new mom may not even realize she needs.
In addition to the Every Mama Cares box, the company also plans on releasing specialty packages including the Cesarean Mama Kit and the Breastfeeding Mama Kit, both of which are slated to debut later this year or early 2019, according to a rep.
La Mama Care boxes can be purchased by the mother, as a gift, or donated to area organizations dedicated to enhancing the welfare of local mothers.
