Sounds of Summer
Escape the city limits for a live music retreat at the Red White and Blue Ball
There’s something in a Texan’s blood that makes a farm retreat almost impossible to resist, even in this suffocating heat. Add to that retreat some live music and a few of Austin’s favorite things (camping, food trucks, fireworks...) and you’ve got the makings of a successful summer weekend at your fingertips.
If you're itching for a midsummer escape from the city limits, local music authority Covert Curiosity and Ender Productions have your fix this weekend with Saturday’s Red White and Blue Ball. Taking place on a secluded farm located 25 miles south of town, Red White and Blue Ball is your chance to trade city life for an old fashioned, Texas-style welcome to the patriotic holiday ahead.
Saturday's celebration will feature some of Austin’s best up-and-coming young music acts in a casual, 60-acre environment where water slides, late night fireworks and food trucks go hand-in-hand.
Fresh off a Blues on the Green appearance, Indie-roots darlings The Wheeler Brothers will headline the appropriately country-heavy lineup that includes Crooks, Shakey Graves and Hello Wheels. And with promised late night sets from Henry + The Invisibles and Jimmie Dreams, you can expect the tunes to continue well into the warm night.
Camping is included as part of the $25 admission fee, so there’s no need to cut short a night under the stars. (It's a safe idea given the event's BYOB policy, which surely means the Shiners and summer brews will be flowing freely all night.)
Your ticket to Red, White and Blue Ball is more than just a low-key summer escape from the city: It's a way to help protect Austin's musical future, too. A portion of the ticket sales will benefit Groundwork Music Project, an Austin-based non-profit that aims to provide music lessons to underserved preschoolers.
