Before Memorial Day Weekend plans, Hot Luck Fest, and more swallow up all of your attention, you should take note of the many Austin bands with worthwhile shows on the calendar in the back half of May. Recommendations await you here.
Genuine Leather at the Mohawk – Thursday, May 16
Pop rockers Genuine Leather will be performing inside at the Mohawk this Thursday, May 16, to celebrate the release of their new single, “Getting Used to The Feel.” It's the first off an EP the band currently has in the works. Openers for the evening include Minivan Dad and Mr. Kat. Tickets are $10.
The Midnight Stroll at the Mohawk – Friday, May 17
Aaron Behrens (of Ghostland Observatory) and producer/multi-instrumentalist Jonas Wilson are The Midnight Stroll, and they’ll be ringing in the release of their new single, “This Town,” on the Mohawk’s indoor stage this Friday, May 17. Party Van will open for the rock act. Tickets are $15.
Kids At The Border 5 at Justine’s – Tuesday, May 21
Kids at The Border 5, which benefits Border Kindness, is set to happen at Justine's Brasserie on Tuesday, May 21. The lineup is a big one that includes Urban Heat, Holy Wave, Club Coma, Andrew Cashen & The Disciples Of Creation, and others. You can also expect various pop-ups and more. Tickets are $25.
Here Be Monsters at Radio East – May 25-26
Here Be Monsters is a festival that highlights Austin’s indie-classical scene, and it’s going down at Radio East on May 25 & 26. See below for the full lineups. A one-day pass for this event is $30, and it’s $50 for the whole weekend.

If you’re on the hunt for something free, then get yourself to Meanwhile Brewing on Thursday, May 30, for King Warbler, Blood Pumps, and Large Brush Collection. By the way, all three of these great local indie acts currently have new music out.
Star Parks at Antone’s – Friday, May 31
Indie pop stalwarts Star Parks will headline Antone’s on Friday, May 31. Be sure to show up early, as Hard Proof and their afrofunk sound will be on hand to ensure that the evening gets off to a lively start. Tickets for the show are $17.
