Searching for Austin's favorite acts: CultureMap's Last Band Standing spotlightslocal bands
There's a debate surging right now on how a proposed two-week schedule for ACL Music Festival will impact our music scene. Should it require that more local acts are included in the festival programming?
While we at CultureMap don't get to choose the lineup, we do have the chance to give one local, hardworking act the official ACL Artist treatment at the upcoming festival on October 12 - 14.
CultureMap editors will handpick the bands for the competition, but first, we want our readers' suggestions for talented, hardworking, local bands.
In our first ever Last Band Standing competition, 16 local bands will be pitted against each other in a month long bracket-style elimination challenge where CultureMap readers and music fans will vote on their favorite band in each match-up.
After the competition, the final two bands will play CultureMap's Last Band Standing Party at the Parish on Wednesday, October 10 — along with a special headliner to be announced soon. At the party, we'll announce the Last Band Standing winner, who will also win Artist badges to ACL Fest.
CultureMap editors will handpick the bands for the competition, but first, we want our readers' suggestions for talented, hardworking, local bands. Last Band Standing kicks off Monday, September 3, so send your suggestions now via email to austin@culturemap.com.
With your help, the 16 competitors will represent Austin's eclectic homegrown music scene — from honky-tonk country to hip hop and indie rock — and get some well-deserved time in the local spotlight.

Editor's note: Competing bands will have the chance to perform at CultureMap's Last Band Standing event. The winning band will win Artist badges to ACL Fest, but this does not include a performance at ACL Fest.
All bands have been selected. Stay tuned for the announcement of the contest, coming next week.
