The wave of Austin restaurant closures continues. Porter Ale House & Gastropub, the popular eatery on South First Street, abruptly shuttered on Thursday, July 27.

"Porter Ale House & Gastropub will be closing effective immediately. We have had an amazing time over the last three-and-a-half years! We are extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to be a part of the South Austin community," reads a Facebook announcement.

"Special thanks to all of the great people who have worked so hard to help us realize our dream. We are very sad to have to close our doors."

Boasting an impressive craft beer menu and an eclectic mix of pub fare (think fish and chips, as well as pierogies), Porter Ale House garnered a reputation as a go-to destination. The neighborhood eatery even appeared on the Bravo reality television series Best New Restaurant in 2015.

"We felt like we had a great concept," co-owner Joe Bixel told CultureMap at the time. "We felt like it was one-of-a-kind in Austin."

While the announcement did not offer an explanation for the sudden closure, it did tease, "we will be seeing you again soon, as we have other projects in the works."

Co-owner Neil Joiner's new venture is The Black Forest, an authentic German food truck located at Live Oak Brewing Company in Del Valle. Menu items include pretzels, sausages, kaespatzle, and more. Hours are Thursday, 2 pm to 8 pm, and Friday through Sunday, noon to 8 pm.
